“Deep Dark Nothingness,” a new play by Kansas City area playwright and Jewish community member Sarah Aptilon, will debut this month.

The play will be staged from June 20 to 23 at the Bodker Black Box Theatre in the Midwest Trust Center (12345 College Blvd., Overland Park, KS 66210) with a cast of veteran actors.

In “Deep Dark Nothingness,” a dark comedy, a much-anticipated family vacation goes awry as history repeats itself in all-too-familiar ways. The play explores the relationships between a mother and two daughters, what they keep hidden from themselves and each other and what happens when it all falls apart.

Aptilon, an experienced playwright, is also an associate professor of religious studies at Johnson County Community College (JCCC) and alumna of Yale and Stanford Universities. She and her husband have two children who attend Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy.

Director Rusty Sneary leads an ensemble featuring Vanessa Davis, Robert Elliott, Peggy Friesen, Nelly Maple and Sneary himself.

“It is such an honor and a pleasure to work with and have the trust of a playwright like Sarah in developing a new work,” Sneary said. “We are now so incredibly fortunate to watch an all-star cast breathe life into these characters and this story for the first time. This is where it all begins.”

“Deep Dark Nothingness” is presented by Paso a Paso Productions, in association with The Living Room Theatre, Midwest Trust Center and JCCC.
