Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy (HBHA) celebrated the graduation of its 2024 senior class in a ceremony at the White Theatre in the The J.
The event, held on May 20, celebrated the eight graduating students: Simon Balanoff, Riley Ellis, Asher Glass, Ellie Glickman, Skyler Penner, Emma Rosenthal, Sophie Stang and Rose Wasserman.
The commencement ceremony began with a processional featuring HBHA faculty and staff. School Rabbi Elizabeth Bonney-Cohen welcomed the attendees, followed by HBHA faculty members Breezy Hoppenrath and Michal Cohen leading the community in the American and Israeli national anthems, respectively. Rabbi David Glickman of Congregation Beth Shalom, father of graduate Ellie Glickman, delivered a d'var Torah.
All eight graduating seniors took to the podium, delivering personal speeches that reflected on their time at HBHA and their aspirations for the future. These speeches showcased the values and education instilled in them during their years at HBHA.
Following the student speeches, Rabbi Bonney-Cohen led the senior parents in the traditional blessing of the children.
The ceremony then moved to the distribution of diplomas. Each senior walked across the stage as members of the administration introduced them, providing insights into how their names — both Hebrew and English — suit their unique personalities and destinies.
Head of School Adam Tilove concluded the ceremony with remarks about the impact the graduates will have on the world during such challenging times. He emphasized that the education and values they received at HBHA have equipped them with the tools to speak up and make a positive difference.
The ceremony culminated in the traditional tossing of graduation caps, marking the official transition from students to alumni.
HBHA community and staff wish a mazal tov the graduates as they embark on their next journeys, and they look forward to seeing the positive impacts they will make in the world.
