Author Martin Sneider will speak in Kansas City about his new book, “Amy Unbound,” and the history of Jews in the fashion world.
Sneider will speak at 7 p.m. on June 18 at Rainy Day Books (2706 W. 53rd St., Fairway, KS 66205). Those interested in attending are asked to register at rainydaybooks.com/Sneider2024.
“Amy Unbound” is the sequel to Sneider’s “Shelf Life,” a novel which focuses on a father and son, Max and Josh Feldman, and their struggle for power over a fashion shoe store chain in the 1990s. “Amy Unbound” focuses on Josh Feldman’s wife, Amy, and the challenges of their marriage stemming from his demanding career. As Amy becomes more involved in social justice and activism, her new role and additional problems from her husband and father-in-law strain their marriage.
Sneider has insider knowledge of the fashion industry, having started as a shoe salesman and serving as president, chief merchant and co-CEO of Edison Brothers Stores, the parent company of numerous fashion and shoe apparel specialty chains. He is an adjunct professor at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he created and taught a course devoted to luxury goods merchandising and marketing that included trips with students to Milan, Paris and London to visit the showrooms of fashion companies such as Armani, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Burberry and Cartier.
In addition to his debut novel, “Shelf Life,” and its sequel, “Amy Unbound,” he is the author of a nonfiction book on the shoe industry.
“Amy Unbound” will be published by Jewish Leaders Books on June 4. More information is available at rainydaybooks.com/Sneider2024.
