Teenager Eve Benditt is being honored as Jewish Family Services’ (JFS) volunteer of the month for her challah-baking efforts for JFS’ spiritual care clients.
Benditt, a recent graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School, was in the International Baccalaureate program and participated in debate, Women in Leadership, the symphonic orchestra and served as president of youth and government at her school, Shawnee Mission East High School. In addition, she plays club volleyball and is president of the Jewish Student Union.
Despite her packed schedule for the past few years, Benditt has found the time to bake challah for Shabbat boxes that are distributed to spiritual care clients through JFS’ chaplaincy program.
“It’s been meaningful to get to donate my time to such an amazing organization,” Benditt said.
For several years, she has also participated in JFS’ annual Hanukkah gift wrapping party, with gifts going to hundreds of Jewish clients during the holiday season. Recently, she shared her JFS volunteer experience with other Jewish teens at the Jewish Community Foundation’s B’nai Tzedek Shuk.
In addition to her volunteering with JFS, Benditt gives time to the National Charity League. Outside of school and her volunteer efforts, Benditt works in the infant and toddler rooms at Primrose School of Prairie Village.
Benditt plans to attend the University of Minnesota to study kinesiology on a pre-physical therapy track.
