With June quickly approaching, staff for J Camp at The J are preparing for an influx of more than 825 youth between the ages of 5 and 13 this summer.
After a busy year of construction, new spaces will be available to J campers this summer. The J’s After School rooms have been renovated, creating new space for campers to learn and play. Additionally, The Merna & Sylvan Siegler Pavilion and Reat’s Place – Corporon Family Amphitheater will both be available to campers to participate in games, crafts, song and drama and watch performances.
In preparation for these activities, DD Gass, director of camps and school-age services at The J, is currently looking for an experienced, energetic song leader who has programming experience to lead large and small groups of children in J Camp song sessions. The song leader should bring an atmosphere of ruach (spirit) through music and programming throughout the week and during weekly Shabbat celebrations.
“We’re looking for someone creative and enthusiastic who can lead our kids through song during camp,” Gass said.
The songleader will be responsible for planning the musical curriculum for appropriate camps as well as create a song resource guide for use by campers throughout the summer. Interested individuals can contact DD Gass at or (913) 327-8079.
J Camp is introducing more unique programming this year, including performances from The Juggling Jesters and Dr. Dumpe’s Magic and Fire Show at Reat’s Place – Corporon Family Amphitheater; KC Disc Dogs; and carnivals for the 4th of July and the end of summer.
New programs have also been added, including new STEM sessions to encourage campers interested in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
J Camp enrollment is currently full for the 2024 summer.
