The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) of Greater Kansas City will once again hold its annual Mother’s Day Jewelry Store program.
Elementary school children from low-income schools or community programs “shop” for a Mother’s Day gift for their special someone. Volunteers sort donated costume jewelry, set up and staff the “store” and help children select the gift.
In NCJW’s 2023 store, 700 children were served.
Staff from the anti-poverty organization and event beneficiary Operation Breakthrough said, “[The kids] took the job of choosing very seriously, but the giving was pure happiness. My guess is most did not make it to [Mother’s Day] to bestow their gift. They were just too excited.”
Those interested in donating costume jewelry can drop it at the NCJW office (5311 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208) between Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon. Donors are encouraged to call the office at (913) 648-0747 before arriving. Questions can be directed to the office phone or .
