Jewish performer and community member Max Pinson plays Art Garfunkel in the theater show “The Simon & Garfunkel Story," which will arrive in Kansas City late this month.
The Midwest Trust Center will present “The Simon & Garfunkel Story” at Yardley Hall (12345 College Blvd, Overland Park, KS 66210) on Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The evening show is largely sold out, so a matinee performance was added, and tickets are on sale now.
Pinson, though now based in New York, is a member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah and a graduate of Blue Valley Southwest and Otterbein University. Pinson, playing Art Garfunkel, joins musician and theater artist Jonah Bobo as Paul Simon in “The Simon & Garfunkel Story,” which chronicles the story of the Jewish folk rock duo from Queens.
With performances in more than 50 countries worldwide, the show covers the journey of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel’s partnership from their beginnings when they were known as Tom & Jerry to their success as one of the best-selling music groups of the 1960s and their acrimonious split in 1970. The performance culminates with the duo’s “The Concert in Central Park” reunion in 1981, which drew more than a half-million fans in attendance.
“The Simon & Garfunkel Story” uses video projection, photos, original film footage and a full live band to create a concert-style show featuring songs such as “Mrs. Robinson,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Homeward Bound,” “Scarborough Fair,” “The Boxer,” “The Sound of Silence” and more.
Max Pinson is the son of Janice Pinson and the late Jeff Pinson.
