Kehilath Israel Synagogue (K.I.) will hold its 47th annual Grand Givers event with the theme “Around the World in Song; An Afternoon Musicale.”
The event will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, at the synagogue (10501 Conser, Overland Park, KS 66212).
The afternoon will include an exclusive lyrical concert featuring musical styles ranging from light opera to Broadway tunes to rock and roll. Six classically-trained professional singers and their accompanist/conductor are coming directly from Paris, France, to perform a selection of world music curated for the Kansas City audience.
The singers, who have performed in concert halls and festivals throughout Europe, are José Canales, tenor; Maxime Cohen, baritone; François-Nicolas Geslot; K.I. Cantor Aron Hayoun; Benoit Riou; David Schavelzon; and Ping Zhang, tenor. They will perform songs from different traditions and languages, including French, Spanish, Italian, Hebrew, Yiddish and English, under the direction of pianist and composer Emmanuelle Souffran.
Kris Ketz, a news anchor on KMBC 9, will serve as master of ceremonies for the program, which will be followed by refreshments.
K.I.’s Grand Givers event is the synagogue’s largest fundraising event of the year. A portion of the event’s proceeds will be sent to provide support for victims of terrorism in Israel.
All ticket holders will be entered in raffles for prizes to be drawn at the event. Ticket options include a “Grand Givers” tier that include admission for up to 10 people with a private pre-concert reception and preferential seating. More information, including pricing, is available at kisyn.org. Tickets are available by contacting Elizabeth Peden at or by calling (913) 642-1880 x203.
