Kansas City native Roslyn Braeman Payne received an award and patron membership from the local post of the Jewish War Veterans in gratitude for her years of support of veterans on Sept. 7.
Payne's father, Aaron Braeman (z"l), served in World War II and was a Jewish War Veterans MO-KAN Post 605 Post Commander multiple times and a Department Commander. He was honored as the post’s Veteran of the Year in 2014.
Payne was the driving force behind the research and publication of "For Those Who Served Our Country: A Tribute to Greater Kansas City's Jewish Veterans,” a book honoring local veterans, whether they served in war or peace, from every branch of service during the 20th and 21st Centuries.
“In the last few years of my father’s life, when he was living at Village Shalom, the post never forgot him,” Payne told The Chronicle in 2017. “They were always stopping by and chatting with him. It meant a great deal to him and us… At my father’s funeral, the impact that the post had on my son was enormous. He really realized that his grandfather had served his country. I think our children and grandchildren need to know that men and women of the Jewish faith have served our country proudly.”
JWV MO-KAN Post 605 is active in the community with various programs in support of hospitalized and homeless veterans of all faiths, college student scholarships, Boy Scout programs and more. It meets on the second Thursday of every month at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City and welcomes new members and guests.
