The J (the Jewish Community Center) hosted the C You In The Major Leagues Foundation Youth Baseball Camp from June 19 to 22.
This is the ninth year for the camp that is put on by Dayton Moore, currently senior advisor of baseball operations with the Texas Rangers, through his C You In The Major Leagues Foundation, based in Kansas City.
Formerly vice president of baseball operations for the Kansas City Royals, Moore was hands-on at camp overseeing activities. The four-day camp for kids ages nine to 14 was held on The J’s turf ball field complex. Moore’s camp is designed to help youth develop their baseball skills, while growing the game of baseball among young people throughout the Kansas City area.
“It's always fun to see the returning campers and meet some new kids, as we work on the fundamentals of the game and pass along some life lessons,” Moore said.
During camp, participants took part in four days of drills and skill training. All activities were under the direction of Moore and former Royals first-base/outfield coach Rusty Kuntz, along with MLB scouts, and high school and college coaches and players from the community.
“The C You in the Major Leagues Baseball Camp is a highlight for us every summer,” said Bob Hennecke, The J’s director of sports and recreation. “Dayton and his staff provide a truly memorable experience for the campers through sharing their knowledge of the game and important life lessons.”
