Lara Portnoy, a native of Overland Park, will be the guest speaker at Kehilath Israel Synagogue during Shabbat morning services on Saturday, May 20.

Services begin at 9 a.m.

Portnoy will speak about the rise in online antisemitism, and what communities and individuals can do to take back online spaces. She will also talk about her work as the program and operations manager at CyberWell, an Israeli nonprofit focused on eradicating online Jew-hatred.

CyberWell is the world’s first live database of online antisemitism, using new technology to collect digital hate so it can be studied and stopped. CyberWell aims to drive the enforcement and improvement of community standards and hate speech policies across the digital space with data. More information on CyberWell’s methodology and data is available at cyberwell.org.

Lara grew up at K.I., attended the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy through eighth grade, and graduated from Blue Valley North High School. She made aliyah to Israel in 2013 and has worked for a decade in non-profit development, including five years at the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation.
