The city council of Kansas City, Missouri, approved an $18,500 grant to plant upwards of 36 trees along the city-owned right-of-way adjacent to Sheffield Cemetery.
The grant was awarded on March 2.
The money from this grant will be used to further the greening of the area outside of Sheffield Cemetery, which was initiated in fall of 2022. The project started with three rosebud trees along 6200 Wilson Ave. in Kansas City, Missouri, which were planted to honor the memories of Matilda Rosenberg, Peter Shemitz and Charles Megerman by their families.
City funding will cover the watering and maintenance of the new trees until they are fully established, resulting in no cost for either the cemetery or any community members/synagogue congregants.
