Kehilath Israel Synagogue (K.I.) will celebrate Purim this year with Megillah readings, a meal and a play.

On Monday, March 6, K.I. will hold Mincha at 6:05 p.m. and a Megillah reading at 6:40 p.m. On Tuesday, March 7, the Megillah readings will be at 7 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. K.I. asks that attendees use boxes of macaroni and cheese as groggers at the Megillah readings; they will be donated to the JFS food pantry afterwards.

Also on March 7, a Purim seudah (meal) and shpiel will be held. RSVPs are required and due by March 2. The meal will consist of Persian food, the children’s choir will sing under the direction of Cantor Aron Hayoun, and “A Motown Operetta” Purim shpiel will be performed by The Megillah Gorillas.

Carolyn Goldwasser is directing and choreographing “A Motown Operetta,” which will consist of Motown tunes arranged to tell the story of Purim. The cast, coined The Megillah Gorillas, consists of Michael Abrams, Irene Blend, Jim Bradley, Bonnie Brooksher, Natalie Cohen, Christie Dotolo, Judy Elliott, Amy Fisch, Marlene Lubowicz, Rebecca Nowack, Carol Robinson, Rebecca Spier and David Stelting.
