SevenDays is seeking original designs by area high school artists (9-12 grades) to capture the daily themes of SevenDays Make a Ripple, Change the World.
It’s part of the annual SevenDays Button Art Competition.
SevenDays (formerly the Faith Always Wins Foundation) is a Kansas City-based nonprofit organization that promotes kindness and understanding through education and dialogue. Each April, SevenDays hosts activities to encourage kindness throughout the Kansas City metro and beyond.
This coming year, SevenDays 2023 will take place over a two-week period beginning with its Kindness Breakfast on Wednesday, Apr. 5, and ending with its Kindness Walk on Sunday, Apr. 16.
A signature of SevenDays is providing colorful buttons (and stickers) with designs reflecting each day’s theme. Buttons and stickers are distributed to area schools, businesses, organizations, faith groups and the public spreading the message of kindness. High school students are encouraged to enter the Button Art Competition with original designs. The students whose designs are selected will each receive $500.
“We are giving voice to the high school age students; asking their opinion on what kindness means to them, inviting them to depict kindness through our selected themes and in the genre of wearable art,” said Mindy Corporon, SevenDays president and co-founder. “These students will make our world more kind and we are providing them the platform from which to do so.”
Interested students must submit eight original artistic designs, representing each of the SevenDays daily themes — love, discover, others, connect, you, go, onward — as well as a general SevenDays-themed button.
Details about the competition, as well as images of previous winning designs, can be found on the SevenDays website SevenDays.org under the “Get Involved” tab. All designs must be submitted online at sevendays.org/get-involved/for-students/button-art-competition by midnight on Dec. 16.
Winning button designs will be chosen by a panel of local art professionals and representatives of SevenDays. Students’ artwork may win in only one category. Winners will be notified via email in early January.
