“The Schmooze,” a Sunday morning radio show hosted by KU Chabad’s Rabbi Zalman Tiechtel, won the second place award in its category in the Kansas Association of Broadcasters’ (KAB) 2022 Station Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting.
“The Schmooze,” which airs Sunday mornings from 8:30 to 9 a.m. on KLWN (1320 AM or 101.7 FM), was started by Rabbi Tiechtel 10 years ago. A segment titled “How to always be happy, even when life is tough!” won second place in KAB’s Medium Market Radio Public Affairs Program category.
“Our goal is to reach every Jew where they are, on their own turf,” Rabbi Tiechtel said. “With our radio show, we can bring them the beauty of Judaism right in the comfort of their living rooms. This show also serves as a wonderful resource for anything Jewish for many listeners of various faiths who want to learn more about what Judaism has to offer to the world.”
The half hour show discusses a wide variety of Jewish topics and features inspirational messages, Jewish music and more.
“We are so grateful to all our listeners and to our partners at Great Plains Media who host the show,” Rabbi Tiechtel said. “We hope to continue for many more years.”
“We love having Rabbi Tiechtel on our station,” said KLWN Program Director Joel Becker. “This show has always been a shining light of information about the Jewish traditions and heritage. We love to include this fabulous show as part of our program lineup on Sunday mornings. We are all so pleased to share this great accomplishment with Rabbi Tiechtel.”
