Congregants and community members gathered on Sunday morning to view and celebrate New Reform Temple’s renovated spaces.

After attendees walked around and checked out the new sanctuary, revitalized classroom and lower level space, and new elevator and ADA-compliant restrooms, Rabbi Alan Londy welcomed the group and talked about the “great miracle” that happened with the 53-year-old building thanks to the leaders and “miracle makers” involved in the project. He recited the blessing for a miracle and led a round of applause for those involved.

A few of the “miracle makers” named were NRT outgoing-President Tom Isenberg; Lynn Poskin, who led the building committee; and Carol and Tom Barnett, who led fundraising.

Rabbi Londy said that at the beginning of the process, he wasn’t sure whether the vision for the renovation could be made a reality. He and Isenberg both said that the remodel/renovation idea was generated by past leadership of NRT, including Brad Freilich and Gary Wolf.

Isenberg said that despite the beauty of the new, open, light-filled space, the building is just bricks and mortar, and what’s important is the community that fills it.

Rabbi Londy agreed and said that what has been done with the building is an investment in the future. It’s also an investment in accessibility for its current and potential congregants.

As part of the morning’s program, Carol and Tom Barnett honored Rabbi Londy for his 11 years of contributions, dedication and leadership of NRT. Soloists Becky and Nathan Bliss performed short musical selections, and a mezuzah was hung outside the new entrance.

A dedication and Shabbat service was held on Friday, May 6.
