Congregations in Kansas City’s Jewish community are helping Jewish Family Services’ Passover meal program, which aims to make sure all those who are hungry will be able to have Passover meals.
From now until March 29, members are asked to donate the following items at their congregations: grape juice, matzah ball soup mix, boxes of matzah, baking mixes and matzah meal. JFS staff and volunteers will work to coordinate efforts during the week of April 11 in preparation for delivery.
This year, participants will have the opportunity to receive a prepared Passover meal or a kit to prepare items with traditional family recipes. Each kit will include the items above along with fresh produce and chicken to round out the holiday meal. Approximately 170 clients will be served through the Passover meal program.
Anyone who is not affiliated with a synagogue is also welcome to donate products at a nearby congregation or drop the items off in designated JFS Food Pantry barrels in the lobby of the Jewish Community Campus or outside the JFS Brookside location during regular business hours.
JFS is also looking for volunteers to help with delivery of the Passover meal kits on Wednesday, April 13; Thursday, April 14; and the morning of Friday, April 15, just prior to the start of the holiday. Those interested in volunteering can email or call (913) 730-1410. All volunteers must have proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
JFS is grateful for supporters including Liberty Fruit, the Avrum and Clara Feinstein Mazon Fund, the Rabbinical Association of Greater Kansas City and community donors.
