Jewish Family Services recently welcomed Taryn Jones as its new Volunteer Engagement Manager.
She takes over the responsibilities for volunteer efforts at JFS following the promotion of Taly Friedman to director of corporate relations.
A native of Kansas City, Jones came to JFS from KC Care Health Center, where she worked as a pediatric care coordinator. Her volunteer management includes advocacy, as she has previously managed campaign coordination.
“I was drawn to JFS because I had a friend that worked there and really loved it,” Jones said, “and I had heard nothing but good things from other people in the community. The job was also a great fit with my previous volunteer experience.”
Jones is a graduate of Pittsburg State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in social work. Since then, she has worked at various social service agencies doing direct client work.
Jones has been a volunteer since her high school days. At Pittsburg State, Jones was a member of a service fraternity.
“Every month we would go cook a meal at Ronald McDonald House. It was a great way to have fun with friends and give back to the community,” Jones said.
Jones continues her volunteer efforts serving as the chapter chair for Equality Kansas Metro KC, a nonprofit organization that works to end discrimination.
“I think volunteering is so important because it's a way to connect with the community in which you live and give back,” Jones said.
In her new role with JFS, Jones will focus on volunteer recruitment, training and retention.
