That concern is as important to school administrators now as it was in March of 2020. As such, HBHA has made the difficult decision to return to a virtual format for its annual Civic Service Award Celebration.

“With safety as our priority and with the good counsel from our honorees and co-chairs, the Civic Service Award Celebration, which takes place Sunday, April 3, will be presented to sponsors and ticket holders through a private online streaming channel. Last year’s private broadcast premiered to rave reviews, and this year we will, again, entertain and inform our community, featuring HBHA students, as we honor Jenny and John Isenberg,” said Kerry Cosner, HBHA director of development.

“We had hoped to come together in person for this fundraising Celebration, but due to the unpredictable nature of the pandemic, we do not want to jeopardize the health and safety of our community,” said Cosner.

The Isenbergs will be honored for their ongoing support of the Jewish community at large, as well as their ongoing support of Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy. Their belief that a Jewish day school is key to creating a strong and vibrant community has been a guiding light in their decision to support the school for more than 30 years.

John and Jenny agree that a strong education is important for all children and they want to support families who choose to send their children to HBHA. They are accepting the award with the hope of inspiring others to do the same.

“We accept this [award] as a way to show the rest of the community that you don’t have to have a direct tie to an organization in order for it to be worthy of support. We are happy to help HBHA, and are so appreciative of the recognition,” said Jenny Isenberg.

“We are thrilled to be able to honor John and Jenny for their enormous contributions to the Kansas City Jewish community.  While we had hoped to meet in person, I think after the smashing success of last year’s virtual event, this will be an exciting show and a worthy acknowledgment of the Isenbergs … while keeping everyone safe,” said Adam Tilove, HBHA head of school.
