Rabbi Dr. Morey Schwartz will be virtually returning to Kansas City for a special MeltonKC “Tuesday with Morey” fundraiser on December 14. The event will be held at 7 p.m. on Zoom for those who donate $72 or more to the Melton Annual Campaign.
The online event is part of the larger International Melton annual campaign, during which 50% of all funds raised will stay in Kansas City and the other 50% will support International Melton. The campaign runs for a limited time, December 6-7, and donations of any size can be made online at www.meltoncommunity.org.
As the international director of the Florence Melton School, Rabbi Schwartz supervises the content and delivery of the Melton School curriculum for programs across the globe. Although he now lives in Israel, Rabbi Schwartz was a former faculty member of the Greater Kansas City Florence Melton School and was rabbi at BIAV locally.
“Morey remains a beloved teacher in Kansas City even though he hasn’t lived locally in more than 20 years,” said Megen Pener, MeltonKC program director. “We are thrilled that he will be bringing back a fan-favorite course, especially as we look to drive awareness around our annual campaign.”
In December 14’s “Tuesday with Morey” program, Rabbi Schwartz will focus on Dialogue and Disagreement: How Jewish Learning Can Repair Our Broken World.
“Tuesdays with Morey was a wonderful way to continue to have the privilege of teaching in the KC Jewish community,” Rabbi Schwartz said. “I am so looking forward to be bringing back Tuesdays with Morey for this special, one-time online event.”
This year, Melton is celebrating the worldwide “CommUNITY” of learners in its programming through the annual campaign.
“We will focus on the many ways in which our work together creates unity across denominational, generational and geographic lines, enhances local communities and brings new learners into the fold,” said Rabbi Rachel Bovitz, Melton International Executive Director.
The CommUNITY campaign is launching alongside the announcement of MeltonKC’s upcoming schedule, which can be found online at www.thejkc.org/melton.
“In addition to the annual campaign, we are excited to announce our spring schedule,” Pener said. “We are offering new courses by our excellent teachers. ‘Press Pause, Rest Assured,’ taught by Rabbi Amy Wallk, has a special connection to Kansas City. Susie Goldsmith and family dedicated this curriculum in blessed memory of Ron. We hope those who knew and loved him are able to experience the course firsthand.”
MeltonKC recently moved under the umbrella of Jewish Experiences, a collaboration of Jewish Federation and The J. MeltonKC is generously funded by Menorah Heritage Foundation and Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City.
Those interested in making a pledge to attend this special event and to support MeltonKC and International Melton can contact Megan Pener at or can visit www.meltoncommunity.org. To support the local Melton chapter, be sure to select that 50% of the donation goes to MeltonKC.
