Jewish Family Services will host a community food drive from 10 a.m. to noon, Sunday, November 21, at the Jewish Community Campus, 5801 W 115th St., Overland Park. Drop off will be in the front circle drive where JFS volunteers and staff will take items directly from cars.
JFS provides more than 800 families with food, household and personal care items — even pet food. Approximately 50% of the items in the pantry come from donated products — many received during food drives.
The most-needed items in November are canned vegetables, sauces and condiments, baking mixes, dish soap for dishwashers and hand-washing, cleaning wipes, trash bags, and food packaging items such as zip-top bags, aluminum foil, and plastic wrap.
JFS challenges those donating food to put together a Thanksgiving Meal Kit, including a homemade card, for clients.
Assemble the following items in a reusable grocery bag including:
- One box of stuffing
- Two cans of pumpkin filling
- Two cans of green beans
- One can of mushroom soup
- One bag/box of mashed potatoes
- One to two cans of sweet potatoes or yams
- One bag of marshmallows
- Two boxes of macaroni and cheese
- One bag/box of rice
- One roll or cornbread mix (one to two pounds)
- One jar or gravy packet
- One package of fried onions (French's)
- One package of holiday napkins or paper plates
Donations can also be dropped off in the JFS barrel in the lobby of the Campus during business hours or at the Brookside office with appointment by calling (816) 333-1172. Donors may also purchase directly through the JFS Pantry Wish List on Amazon or make a financial contribution to the pantry at jfskc.org.
JFS can help other organizations or companies host their own food drives. For more information, email .
