The Friends of Sheffield Cemetery organization plans to restore the stone pillars next to the wrought-iron entrance gate at the cemetery.
The Stone Pillars note all the names of the founders of Sheffield Cemetery, which was established in 1901.
Through the years the names have begun to deteriorate. As part of the Friends of Sheffield “Restoring Honor" campaign Gary Keshner of Creative Sculpture and Restoration will do the restoration work on the pillars.
Louis Kemp was the founder and first president of Sheffield Cemetery; he was also president of Tifereth Israel for 27 years. Kemp’s great-grandchildren, and great, great-grandchildren still live in the Kansas City area.
Those interested in supporting the restoration work will be recognized with their names on a plaque, and can do so by sending funds to the Jewish Community Foundation, 5801 W. 115th Street, Ste. 104, Overland Park, KS 66211, with instructions to support the Friends of Sheffield Cemetery.
