Jewish Experiences, a collaboration of Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City and The J, is launching its Acclaimed Author Series with a year filled with unique and thought-provoking topics.

With support from the Jewish Book Council, this year’s Acclaimed Author Series is packed with compelling authors and celebrates the global art of Jewish storytelling, highlighting diverse voices and new Jewish writing.

The eight authors featured are prominent and emerging writers from all over the United States. The greater Kansas City community is invited to engage, educate, and explore diverse experiences through literature, the arts, music, history, Israel, current events, gender, and more.

The first event is an in-person presentation (no virtual option) with Jo Ivester, author of “Once a Girl, Always a Boy: A Family Memoir of a Transgender Journey.” The event starts at 7 pm on Wednesday, November 3, in the Social Hall at The J.

This presentation is in partnership with GA’AVAH KC, Mid-America LGBT Chamber, ADL, BBYO and other Kansas City youth groups. There will be a special meet and greet opportunity for youth groups at 5:30 pm and a general meet and greet from 6:15 to 6:45 pm.

A special component of this series will feature three events focusing on children and families, including a unique and meaningful intergenerational experience for grandparents, parents and their children with Moment Magazine CEO, Nadine Epstein, and moderated by Dr. Helene Lotman, Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City president and CEO.

Most of the series will be held virtually with options for in-person gatherings at The J or participants may choose to watch from the comfort of their home. Masks are required for all in-person events. Events are subject to change to an all-virtual format based on COVID changes and will be communicated using the email provided at registration.

Each event is $10 per person or $180 per person for a season pass. View the full event schedule and register at theJKC.org/AcclaimedAuthorSeries or call 913.327.8007.
