Congregation Beth Torah experienced a long-awaited "shehecheyanu moment" earlier this fall when it welcomed its students and families back to 127th Street.
Since late March of 2020, when religious school switched from a grade-based model to a family model, where families learned from their individual homes. Earlier this September, students and families returned to their shared religious home and were greeted with many smiles (behind masks) and elbow bumps.
Beth Torah's two educational programs for young people, the Weiner Religious School and TAG (Torah, avodah, g'milut chasadim), returned to CBT. The Weiner Religious School, which is kindergarten through fifth grade, celebrated Sukkot during the Festival of Booths. Families made and ate edible sukkahs, shook the lulav and etrog and decorated the CBT Sukkah.
CBT sixth through ninth graders chose electives that encourage them to continue learning and living Jewishly, including Jewish Values in Action and Jewish Values in Media. Students delved into these topics while reconnecting with one another.
Meanwhile, CBT's confirmands explored Jewish values on a higher level with their rabbis.
