On September 25, the Jewish Community Foundation hosted “Happy ‘News’ Year,” a virtual happy hour for its fundholders and community partners.
Guests were invited to socialize and share the positive things they are looking forward to in the new year.
Amid the ongoing challenges of the pandemic, the Foundation created the event to celebrate the good news – the personal experiences of joy, love and generosity – in each other’s lives.
“We had originally planned to get together in-person with the community to celebrate our return to the office,” said JCF president Alice Jacks Achtenberg. “Then unfortunately Delta happened, and we had to postpone our plans. We are so grateful for the opportunity to ‘see’ each other virtually and share in the anticipation of milestones, special events, and other positive news we’re all looking forward to this year.”
Participants shared their personal examples of upcoming good news, including multiple new grandchildren, milestone birthdays, engagements, family trips, the possibility of getting children vaccinated, and even jury duty deferral.
In addition to sharing good news, many guests also expressed gratitude for their continued good health during the pandemic. Others were thankful for the opportunity to work remotely and the ability to attend meetings and get-togethers virtually. The Foundation gave one lucky registrant some extra good news when he won a drawing during the event for a free family membership to The J.
“We’re fortunate at the Jewish Community Foundation to see the good that people are capable of everyday,” said Achtenberg. “Through this emphasis on positivity, we find connection and community.
