The community is invited to join Congregation Ohev Sholom to rejoice with the Torah on Thursday, September 29, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. at Ohev Sholom, 5311 West 75th St., Prairie Village, KS.
This year during services Ohev Sholom will honor Sally Gordon, Kallat Torah, and Randy Katcher, Hatan Torah.
Sally Gordon has been a member of Ohev Sholom for 48 years. She has served on the Sisterhood board as Vice President of Membership, Vice President of Programming, Recording Secretary and President. She presently serves as Ohev Sholom Executive Committee Vice President of Membership and has served on the Ohev board for more than 30 years.
Gordon serves as co-chair of the Ohev food committee and looks forward to getting back to providing kiddush luncheons once everyone is safely back in the building. She enjoys gardening and cooking. She and Larry Gordon have been married for almost 53 years and have taught T’ai chi for 27 years. Their mantra is, “Stay stress free with T’ai chi.”
Katcher grew up at Ohev Sholom from 1955 to 1970. He was a bar mitzvah at Ohev Sholom in 1968. He left town for a number of years, but rejoined when he returned to Kansas in 2012. Katcher has been married to Sandi for 31 years. He serves as Ohev Sholom Building and Grounds Committee Chair.
Katcher worked for First Watch in restaurant management and supervision for 38 years. For several years he was involved in construction of new sites, which has allowed him to assist Ohev Sholom with building maintenance. He jokes that he knows a little bit about a lot of things - just enough to get him into trouble.
