To address the rising need, Jewish Family Services is offering Mindful Mondays, a free, virtual mindful training program offered every Monday from 11:30 a.m. to noon, Sept. 13 through Dec. 13.
“We’re excited to provide the community with free access to mindfulness experiences and education which are anchored in science to enhance participants’ overall wellbeing and help them meet the challenges of everyday life,” said Sondra Wallace, JFS YouBeYou and Mental Health Coalition coordinator.
These weekly sessions led by Wallace and Julia Grimm, JFS therapist, will have a specific theme, including The Beginners Mind, Non-Striving, Self-Compassion, Generosity, Non-Judging, Trust, Letting Go and Patience.
Using the Zoom platform, the sessions are free but registration is required at the Mindful Mondays registration link or at www.jfskc.org. Once registered, participants will receive a link to join each session. Participants can attend one or all virtual sessions.
Mindfulness is a practice anchored in science and focused on being intensely aware of what an individual is sensing and feeling in the moment without interpretation of judgment, Grimm said.
Mindful Mondays is based upon multiple mindfulness practices, including Jon Kabat-Zinn’s “9 Attitudes of Mindfulness.” Kabat-Zinn’s description of the mindfulness practice “means that we commit fully in each moment to be present; inviting ourselves to interface with this moment in full awareness, with the intention to embody as best we can an orientation of calmness, mindfulness, and equanimity right here and right now.”
