Jewish Family Services and the Rabbinical Association of Greater Kansas City’s annual High Holiday Food Drive is scheduled September 1-30. This traditional holiday food drive, held in celebration of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, helps JFS feed approximately 800 families each month with dignity and care.

For the High Holiday Food Drive, community members are asked to fill a grocery bag with the pantry’s most-needed items for September: tomato products, canned fruit, toothpaste, toilet paper and paper towels.

Members of local Jewish congregations should return their donations to their place of worship; drop-off deadlines may vary.

Other drop off options are:

  • In the JFS barrel located in the lobby of the Jewish Community Campus, 5801 W. 115th St., in Overland Park, during business hours
  • By appointment at the JFS Brookside Pantry, 425 E. 63rd St., Kansas City; call (816) 333-1172.
  • On Monday, Sept. 13, JFS’s Community Food Drive from 5 to 6 p.m. at JFS’ Brookside Pantry.
  • On Sunday, Sept 19, JFS’s Community Food Drive from 10 a.m. to noon at the Jewish Community Campus circle drive.

Online shopping is also encouraged, and you may have your donations shipped directly to JFS by purchasing from the “JFS Pantry” wish list on Amazon.

More than 800 individuals and families continue to need monthly assistance from the JFS food pantry. Approximately 39% of the agency’s food pantry clients receive at least one or more other services provided by JFS, such as social service case management, counseling and a variety of services for older adults.
