This year’s annual community-wide Selichot program and service will take place Saturday, August 28, hosted by Congregation Beth Torah. There will be opportunities for multi-access participation, both in person and virtual.

Havdalah and program begin at 9:00 p.m. “Looking for God in all the Right Places” will be the topic of a virtual presentation offered by Rabbi Jeffrey Salkin, one of America’s most nationally and internationally recognized leaders. Rabbi Salkin has appeared on many television and radio programs, has spoken in more than a hundred communities and is the author of numerous books and publications. He currently serves as the Senior Rabbi at Temple Israel of West Palm Beach, Florida.

The program session is based on Rabbi Salkin’s 2020 keynote address to the Chautauqua Institution, which asked the questions: How can the Jewish community respond to the non-religious and the spiritual seekers in our midst, and in general society? How has COVID changed American Jewish spirituality? What resources does Judaism bring to this crucial conversation? How can you find God in today’s world?

The Selichot service begins at 10:10 p.m. and is designed to help worshipers begin to spiritually prepare for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The late hour and the themes articulated in the liturgy will prepare attendees for the approaching Days of Awe and set the tone for the High Holy Days. The service will be led by area clergy and a musical leadership team of soloists from congregations across the community.

Selichot services also take place Sunday at 9:00 a.m. at Kehilath Israel (services at BIAV to be announced).
