For his Eagle Scout project, Alec Weiner wanted to honor his late grandfather, Stan Weiner, who was a board member of Harvesters — The Community Food Network.
Members of Alec’s troop, Boy Scout Troop 92, helped him build various raised flower beds that are handicap accessible at Harvesters. The beds are now in use by the Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas City in partnership with the Kansas City Community Gardens.
Alec also had a bench placed at the garden to honor his grandfather. The inscription on the bench reads: “Stan Weiner, Harvester Board Member. Dedicated in his memory by Grandson, Alec Weiner.
Alec earned his Eagle Scout in June 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, his recognition did not come until June 6 of this year.
Alec is going into his senior year at Blue Valley West, and he will also be taking classes at Johnson County Community College. He will be on the Blue Valley West football team.
Alec is the son of Scott and Wendy Weiner. His grandparents are Suzi and the late Stanley Weiner; Sharon and Morrie Soltz; and George and Julie Coopersmith.
