Just 20 miles separate Congregation Beth Torah and Calvary Temple Baptist Church, although it feels like the two congregations got closer and closer during the pandemic.
Both congregations have supported one another, physically and virtually. Rev. Eric D. Williams of Calvary Temple Baptist Church joined Congregation Beth Torah via Zoom on the shabbat of Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend. Williams shared his experiences of growing up in Kansas City in a different time.
Now, Beth Torah will be joining Calvary’s rededication on July 25 at 3:00 pm. During this rededication at the church, located at 2940 Holmes St. in Kansas City, Missouri, Beth Torah’s Rabbi Javier Cattapan will share special greetings with all in attendance.
Both congregations look forward to continuing to come together in worship and service. Since July 2020, Beth Torah members have collected a plethora of hygiene products and more than 1,000 sets of toothbrushes and toothpaste for the Calvary Community Wellness Center, an arm of the church.
Beth Torah members have also cooked or ordered meals for individuals who are reliant on the wellness center, and delivered them to their homes. The two congregations will continue supporting one another in the future, and lessening the distance between them.
