Local news station KSHB-TV 41 Action News won a 2021 Regional Edward R. Murrow award in the Large Market Television Feature Reporting category. The award-winning story, titled “75 years after Auschwitz liberation, Holocaust survivor ‘cannot keep quiet,’” was a feature on local Holocaust survivor Sonia Warshawski.

Known in the community as “Big Sonia,” Warshawski explains in the story how she never talked about her Holocaust experience as a prisoner in Auschwitz until she heard about Holocaust denial.

“This was just an awakening for me,” she said in her interview with KSHB. “Like a thunder to my brain saying, ‘Sonia! This is the reason you survived! You cannot keep quiet!’”

The story also included an interview with Jessica Rockhold, executive director of the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education.
