Mazel tov to Peter Spears, a co-producer of “Nomadland,” which stars Francis McDormand and won best picture at the Academy Awards held April 25 in Los Angeles.
Spears is Jewish and grew up in Overland Park. He graduated from Shawnee Mission South.
In an interview with Fox 4, Spears’ former drama teacher Mark Swezey said Spears still donates to fundraisers for Shawnee Mission South’s drama department, and even has his own seat in the auditorium.
This is the second film Spears has produced that was nominated for an Oscar; his 2017 film “Call Me By Your Name” was also a best picture contender.
