The Kansas City Jewish Film Festival at The J, in partnership with the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education (MCHE), will present the film “Those Who Remained” in honor of Yom HaShoah. The film is available for viewing on-demand April 7 through 14. A virtual presentation and discussion with Dr. Shelly Cline, director of education and historian with MCHE, will be at 8 p.m. April 14.

Directed by Barnabás Tóth, “Those Who Remained” is a lyrical story of the healing power of love in the midst of conflict, loss and trauma. It reveals the healing process of Holocaust survivors through the eyes of a young girl in post-World War II Hungary.

Having survived the camps, 42-year-old Aldo lives a solitary life as a doctor in Budapest, and 16-year-old Klara lives reluctantly with her great aunt, holding on to hope that her father and mother will return. She meets Aldo, and soon the two of them find something in each other that has long been absent in their lives. As they grow closer, the joy in both of their lives slowly returns. But as the Soviet Empire rises to power in Hungary, their pure and loving father-daughter relationship is misunderstood and frowned upon.

E-tickets are available for $12 per household at TheJKC.org/remained. Tickets will be available for purchase through April 13. The link to the film will be emailed once your e-ticket(s) have been purchased. One e-ticket equals one virtual household. This film can be viewed on your cell phone, tablet, computer or smart TV.
