Ohev Sholom Sisterhood invites the community to enjoy the wit and wisdom of Sarah Aptilon when she presents “The Cosmic Joke: Judaism, Mysticism & Comedy” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, on Zoom.
Aptilon is an assistant professor of religious studies at Johnson County Community College, where she teaches courses in world religions, Asian religions and Japanese culture. Over the past 15 years she has also conducted hundreds of cross-culture training programs for global companies throughout the United States and Mexico.
A native of Prairie Village, Aptilon attended the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy; she later spent seven years at a Buddhist monastery in Kyoto, lived in Mexico City for eight years, and returned to the Kansas City area with her family in 2012. She earned a B.A. in East Asian studies from Yale University and a Ph.D. in religious studies from Stanford University.
