The White Theatre at The J is partnering with the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF), creators of the award-winning Yiddish Fiddler on the Roof, for a special livestream performance, called “Soul to Soul,” to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 18 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $12 per household.

“Soul to Soul” is where African American and Jewish music meet in a celebration of two cultures. It honors the historical and ongoing relationship between the African American and Jewish communities, and the cultural legacy the two communities share.

“Soul to Soul” will be performed by Elmore James, Tony Perry, Lisa Fishman and Cantor Magda Fishman with special guest Tatiana Weschler. They are accompanied by an instrumental ensemble led by the program’s initiator and musical director Zalmen Mlotek, artistic director of the NYTF.

“We’re excited to offer this special livestream performance as a way to safely celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr on this important national holiday,” said Keith Wiedenkeller, Director of Arts + Culture at The J. “Soul to Soul’s emotional, uplifting content has been welcomed with great enthusiasm.”
