Village Shalom has announced the appointment of Jim Klein as its second lifetime board member.
“There is no one who deserves to be a lifetime board member of Village Shalom more than Jim Klein,” said Frank Lipsman, board chair of the Village Shalom Board of Directors. “It seems that I depend on him almost daily to discuss the sometimes-thorny issues facing Village Shalom, and he is always available to provide insightful and thoughtful advice. I am so glad that he has agreed to a long-term leadership role with this organization.”
Klein joins Shirley Helzberg as a lifetime member of the board of directors. His lifetime appointment comes after 12 years of service on Village Shalom’s Board of Directors.
“When you have an individual that is intelligent and compassionate and has a passion for Village Shalom, the Board would not want to lose that individual just because they have served their term,” said Stan Bushman, a longtime donor of Village Shalom. “It is difficult to find competent individuals willing to invest their time.”
During Klein’s tenure the board has executed a major campus expansion to the continuing care retirement community’s south Overland Park campus.
“Over the past 12 years, during some difficult times, Jim demonstrated his leadership skills and passion for Village Shalom both of which were far above and beyond what might be expected,” said board member, Joseph Hiersteiner. “His award of a lifetime directorship shows not only the board’s appreciation for his invaluable past service, but also the strong desire to keep Jim engaged for the future.”
In addition to Klein’s lifetime appointment, Village Shalom also announced the appointment of three new directors to the board. Rosanne Rosen, Robert Baran and Neal Schwartz were all elected for three-year terms.
“We are fortunate to have three outstanding new board members, all of whom have experience with non-profit organizations, and who have a deep regard for the mission and history of Village Shalom,” said Lipsman. “I look forward to working with each of them.”
After 12 years of service, Joe Hiersteiner and Mike Abrams wrapped up their board tenures. Both Hiersteiner and Abrams served as board chair for two of their years on the board.
“I would like to thank Joe and Mike for all of their dedicated service over the last 12 years that has been so valuable to Village Shalom and our community,” said Village Shalom President and CEO Matt Lewis. “It’s an honor to welcome Rosanne, Robert and Neal to the board. Each of them bring unique skill sets to the board and a wealth of experience. We look forward to their contribution to the organization for many years to come.”
