Local authors Moran Alon and Niccole A. Kopit explore the experiences behind women’s public accomplishments in their new book, “What We Carry: Ten Women. Ten Lives. One Truth.”
The book features the stories of 10 women whose lives reflect ambition, motherhood, caregiving, loss, faith, belonging and reinvention. Through their stories, Alon and Kopit examine the responsibilities and challenges that often remain unseen behind professional accomplishments, family roles and leadership positions.
The women featured in the collection come from different backgrounds and have faced different challenges, including caring for loved ones, rebuilding careers, navigating changes in identity and finding a sense of belonging.
The book is divided into three sections: “When the Ground Shifts,” “The Courage to Choose Differently,” and “Building Something That Lasts.” Together, the stories explore unexpected changes, decisions to pursue a different path and the lives women build afterward.
Alon grew up in Israel and practiced real estate law before moving to the United States. She is co-owner and chief financial officer of IntegrateIT and a development officer with the Jewish Federation of Kansas City. She also serves on the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy board of trustees.
Kopit is chief academic officer of Laurus College and CEO of Kopit Law Firm. She holds a doctorate in business administration and also co-hosts the “Degrees of Leadership” podcast with Michele Poulos.
Both authors are members of the Kansas City Jewish community and said their Jewish experiences and community connections influenced their approach to storytelling. They hope the book encourages readers to look beyond the roles people play publicly and have more meaningful conversations about the experiences they carry.
Alon and Kopit will host a book signing and women’s wellness event at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 12 at Berry’d Treasures in Leawood. The event will include a book signing and wellness conversations with Adi Shamir, a digestive specialist, integrative nutrition health coach and functional wellness expert, and Khyati Kapur, owner of Leawood Total Wellness.
