The Arts & Culture team at The J will bring the stage performance of “The Birthday of the World” from Oct. 7 through 9 in the social hall at the Jewish Community Campus. Created by Jonathan Shmidt Chapman, the production is inspired by the book “Birthday of the World” by Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen. Presented by Alliance Theatre, the production is co-presented with The Coterie Theatre.
Tickets are available now at thewhitetheatre.org. Performance dates and times include 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. shows on Wednesday, Oct. 7, Thursday, Oct. 8, and Friday, Oct. 9.
Designed for children ages 0-5, the immersive performance brings the story to life through visual wonder and sensory play. Drawing from Jewish folklore, the production explores the ancient story of the world’s creation in an explosion of light that scattered sparks throughout every person and object, inviting humanity to share in the beautiful mission of finding and gathering them.
This imaginative and engaging production is an ideal introduction to live theater for the youngest members of the family. Performances will take place in the social hall at the Jewish Community Campus during the White Theatre’s renovation.
Jonah Greene, director of Arts & Culture at The J, said the production offers both an entertaining and educational experience for young audiences.
“‘The Birthday of the World’ connects audiences with meaningful Jewish themes, traditions and stories while demonstrating the educational power of theater to entertain, spark curiosity and strengthen connections to culture and community,” Greene said.
The White Theatre at The J continues its 2026-27 season with the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “A Chorus Line,” opening Nov. 7, 2026, in the newly renovated Lewis & Shirley White Theatre. Tickets and additional information are available at thewhitetheatre.org.
