The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah will hold multiple events for its congregants and the community throughout August.
B’nai Jehudah, Kansas City’s largest Reform synagogue, is located at 12320 Nall Ave., Overland Park, KS 66209.
Shabbat services
Aug. 7 — Tot Shabbat and Shabbat Services: B’nai Jehudah will host Tot Shabbat for young children at 5 p.m. on Aug. 7. The in-person, family-friendly service will include music, stories and an activity, followed by an oneg. At 6 p.m., the congregation’s regular Erev Shabbat service will begin both in-person and online.
Aug. 14 — Learners’ Shabbat: This 6 p.m. Shabbat service will include pauses to explain traditions and their origins and will be held both online and in-person.
Aug. 21 — Shabbat Simcha: Attendees will celebrate joyous moments such as birthdays and anniversaries at this musical Shabbat service at 6 p.m. both online and in-person.
Aug. 28 — Shabbat Services: At 6 p.m., the congregation’s Erev Shabbat service will begin both in-person and online.
Learning experiences
Aug. 12 — Klein Collection Learning Group: An object from the The Michael Klein Collection at B’nai Jehudah, one of the largest Judaica collections in the Midwest, will be the center of an informal learning session from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the synagogue.
Aug. 19 — “Meet the Prophets” Lunch and Learn: Attendees will explore artwork in B’nai Jehudah’s “Prophet Pod” from 12 to 1:30 p.m. and learn about the lives and messages of the prophets featured in the weekly haftorah. A light lunch can be purchased.
Aug. 23 events
On Aug. 23, B’nai Jehudah will host three events for the community.
Babies and Tots: This monthly gathering, held from 9 to 10 a.m. at the synagogue, is intended for families with little children who want to connect with other young Jewish families in Kansas City. Rabbi Rachel Rothstein and Music Director Laura Payne will facilitate the event.
Bark Mitzvah: To mark the Jewish tradition of celebrating the new year for domestic animals in the month of Elul, B’nai Jehudah will host a “Bark” Mitzvah at Mitzvah Garden Kansas City, located behind the synagogue. The free, pet-friendly celebration will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. and include music, a ceremony and an oneg.
Community Blood Center Blood Drive: From 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., attendees can donate blood at B’nai Jehudah. Photo ID will be required day-of. Those interested can sign up at savealifenow.org/group and use group code UP or contact Stacy Wright at .
