Jewish Federation of Kansas City’s Women’s Philanthropy invites women from across the community to volunteer together during the JCC Maccabi Games this August.
On Wednesday, Aug. 5, Women’s Philanthropy will lead a group of 20 volunteers assisting with JCares service projects. Giving back is one of the values of the Games, and throughout the week, every athlete will participate in a service project that will directly benefit Kansas City Jewish communal organizations.
Women’s Philanthropy volunteers will help the athletes with their JCares projects. This volunteer opportunity is open to all women in the community ages 18 and older.
“We’re excited to create an opportunity for women to come together in service while welcoming hundreds of Jewish teen athletes to Kansas City,” said Barbara Bloch, Jewish Federation’s major gifts officer. “It’s a meaningful way to support the Maccabi Games while strengthening our own community connections.”
Bloch said volunteering as a group reflects the spirit of Women’s Philanthropy.
“We as women, and as Jewish women specifically, can come together and take care of our own by giving back something of ourselves,” she said.
She added that getting to interact and build camaraderie with the Maccabi athletes is a special part of the volunteer opportunity.
“They could be our future professional athletes,” she said.
Women’s Philanthropy is one of several Jewish Federation groups volunteering during the JCC Maccabi Games. Federation’s Young Adults Division (YAD) will volunteer at the Opening Ceremonies on Monday, Aug. 3, while Ben Gurion Society members will assist with the Closing Celebration on Thursday, Aug. 6.
Together, these groups will join more than 1,000 volunteers – from host families to scorekeepers to greeters – helping to make the Games a success.
Registration for the Women’s Philanthropy volunteer shift, as well as the other Federation volunteer opportunities, is available at JewishKansasCity.org/Events.
