Baker University Religion Professor Nick Pumphrey will speak to the Jewish Unforgettable Ladies Interested in Eating Together (JULIETs) about the major religions represented in the Kansas City area and how they arrived there.
The event will be held on Sunday, May 31, at 12:30 p.m. Location will be provided upon reservation, which can be done by emailing Susie Klinock at by Thursday, May 28.
Dr. Pumphrey is a professor of Religious Studies at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. He specializes in the archaeology and history of ancient Israel and works within the fields of comparative religions, popular culture and religion. He also curates the Quayle Bible Collection. His presentation will examine how and why Kansas City became the home for the five big religions of the world: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. Attendees will also learn how smaller groups such as Jainism and Sikhism are in Kansas City and how they have changed over time.
All Jewish women (and women of other faiths who have a Jewish spouse) are invited to this free event. No synagogue affiliation is required to attend, and attendees should arrive 15 minutes early.
