All Jewish women are invited to attend the next Jewish Unforgettable Ladies Interested in Eating Together (JULIETs) event, which will feature a presentation about Pawsperity, a Kansas City nonprofit with the goal of helping struggling parents break the cycle of intergenerational poverty by teaching pet grooming skills.
It will be held on Sunday, July 27, at 12:30 p.m. at Congregation Beth Torah (6100 W. 127th St., Overland Park, KS 66209).
Pawsperity works to help its students rebound from domestic violence and addiction, teaching free job and life skills which can empower individuals to earn livable wages, build self-esteem and support their families. Pawsperity teaches skills ranging from animal handling techniques to advanced grooming and breed standards. It also provides personal support services such as comprehensive life coaching, access to legal aid, mental health counseling, transportation and housing, all funded by donations and grants. Many students make the transition into the program directly from homeless shelters. Additional services include a food pantry and lunches prepared in their commercial kitchen.
Women can reserve their seat by emailing Susie Klinock at by July 24. Admission is free.
Attendees should bring their lunch and arrive at least 10 minutes early to check in so the event can begin promptly. No synagogue affiliation is required to attend, and attendees should bring their own lunch or snack.
