Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy is pleased to announce virtual options for its upcoming annual admissions events. This year’s admissions events will include two Taste of Kindergarten events for parents/guardians and children, as well as two parent/guardian-only Coffee and Conversation events.

“We wanted incoming families to have the same opportunity to get to know our incredible Kindergarten team as in normal years, while keeping everyone safe. We made significant adjustments to make this normally in-person event into a fun and interactive virtual event that would still hold the attention of four- and 5-year-old pre-Kindergarten students. Thanks to our Lower & Middle School Principal, Dr. Kyanka-Maggart, and the Kindergarten team, we have a great 40-minute program that will help new families get to know HBHA’s mission and how we benefit their children,” said Tamara Lawson Schuster, HBHA’s Director of Admissions.

This year’s theme, Pop into Taste of Kindergarten, addresses the fact that each child is an individual and, like kernels of popcorn, each child “pops” with growth at their own rate. HBHA’s focus on the whole child enables the school to focus on each student’s needs in the classroom, in order to help students find success on their own terms.

“HBHA is a warm, welcoming community with a supportive learning environment. We are thrilled to be able to share some of the warmth and the individualized learning through our upcoming admissions events,” said Schuster.

What to expect at this year’s events:

Taste of Kindergarten is a 40-minute Zoom event, with hands-on learning fun facilitated by the Kindergarten teaching team to give families a peek into life as an HBHA kindergartener. Families may select from one of two events: Wednesday, January 13 at 6:00 p.m., and Tuesday, January 19 at 6:00 p.m. There will be a supply pick-up prior to each event, so please register at least two days prior to your preferred Taste of Kindergarten session to ensure you receive supplies.

Coffee and Conversation offers parents/guardians of rising kindergarteners the chance to join in virtual conversation with a recent HBHA kindergarten family and HBHA administrators. Parents/guardians may select from one of two sessions: Thursday, January 21 at 9:00 a.m., and Thursday, January 21 at 7:00 p.m.

Kindergarten RoundUp, typically an in person experience for pre-K applicants, is being reworked. Information will be announced soon.

Zoom links will be emailed to all registered families prior to each event.

In addition to these admissions events, HBHA is offering a series of virtual Learn & Play w/ HBHA events that focus on different topic areas and feature different HBHA teachers. In December, preschoolers (ages 3-5) learned to draw a giraffe with Kelly Reichman, HBHA’s art teacher. On January 7, preschoolers get to make beautiful music with Avery Parkhurst, HBHA’s music teacher, who is also an alumnus of the school. These free events also include materials that will be given out by the school to make it even more engaging and interactive.

“We know families are doing their due diligence in finding the right educational fit for their students for the 2021-22 school year. We have been busy with virtual school tours for incoming families, and our Learn & Play w/ HBHA sessions so everyone can get a good sense of our school environment. We hope our upcoming admissions events help fill out the rest of the answers. If not, I’m always available to answer any questions at , 913.327.8135,” said Schuster.
