Jewish Family Services volunteer Liz Webb helped deliver Hanukkah presents to clients last year as part of the holiday project. Volunteers will be helping this year, too, with COVID-19 precautions in place.

With the coronavirus continuing to challenge us all, Jewish Family Services has come up with creative ways for its annual Hanukkah Holiday Project to take place this year. You can play a pivotal role in making the Festival of Lights bright for local Jewish families who continue to struggle economically.

Hanukkah begins at sundown Thursday, Dec. 10, but it takes weeks of planning to get ready to purchase and deliver gifts and gift cards to the 330 individuals JFS will serve this year through the holiday project. With a new hybrid model for the Hanukkah Holiday Project, anyone can participate according to his or her own comfort level. While registration has closed to physically shop for a child or teen, there are two additional options to participate in gift giving that means so much.

“I am blown away by the generosity — there are so many gifts, I can’t believe it,” said one JFS Hanukkah 2019 recipient. “Thank you so much!”

JFS is offering shopping from the safety of your home via online gift registries through Target and Amazon. JFS will take care of safely delivering gifts to recipients. Links to the Target and Amazon gift registries can be found at jfskc.org/hanukkah and you can shop away.

The third option this year is purchasing gift cards for JFS recipients. This allows individuals and families to choose correct sizes and styles, and to shop for groceries or purchase other items they need. JFS suggests gift cards — in $25 increments — may come from Target, Walmart, Amazon, Hy-Vee, Price Chopper or Hen House. Gift cards can be purchased at any time and delivered or mailed directly to the JFS office, 5801 W. 115th Street, Suite 103, Overland Park, KS 66211. Mark the envelope “Att: Hanukkah Project.” Gift cards may also be dropped off in the secure orange box outside of JFS’ office at the Campus (Suite 103) during regular business hours.

The community can also support the Hanukkah Holiday Project through financial support by donating online at www.jfskc.org/donate-holiday/. Checks are also welcome and can be mailed to the JFS office at the address above.

Due to COVID-19, JFS will not be hosting the Annual Hanukkah Wrapping Party; however, volunteer wrapping opportunities will be available soon.
