Congregation Beth Torah member Zach Somberg is among several members of Blue Valley Northwest’s Husky Headlines staff to win a 2012 Emmy Award from Mid-America Chapter of The National Television Academy of Arts and Sciences in the high school division.

Zach, along with Taylor Andrews, earned first place in the human interest category for their story “Listen to Me,” about a young man with a hearing impairment.

The students were honored at the 36th Mid-America Emmy Gala Sept. 22 at the Midland Theatre in Kansas City, Mo.

Zach, a senior, is the son of Kelly and Dan Somberg.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Eloyce and Morton Pepper of Englewood, Colo., and Marjorie and the late Maurice Jerwick, Overland Park. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology, and from Washburn University earned a degree as a registered diagnostic cardiac sonographer. She was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi. She currently is employed as a cardiac sonographer at St. Luke’s Hospital.

The future groom is the grandson of the late Albert and Grace Klein and the late Lynn and Elizabeth Fargo. He attended the University of Oklahoma, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in cultural anthropology. He is currently employed as an account manager for Print Time.

A late May wedding is planned.
