The future groom attended the University of Southern California, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, and the University of Virginia, earning a master’s degree in accounting. She attended Indiana University in Bloomington, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and a certificate in Jewish studies. She is a member of Sigma Delta Tau sorority and is currently employed as a teacher at the Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center in Milwaukee.

The future groom is the grandson of Tootie Brown and the late Spencer Brown, Sharon Shoham and the late Rabbi Gilbert Shoham, and Bill and Babs Lowenstein. He attended Indiana University in Bloomington, graduating with honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and a certificate in the Liberal Arts and Management Program. He is a Phi Beta Kappa with distinction and is currently employed with GE Healthcare in Milwaukee.

Barbara Leifer and Johann Aeschlimann, both of New York City, are pleased to announce their marriage on May 26. They were married by the mayor of Hudson, N.Y., in the historic courthouse of that city.

The bride is the daughter of Doreen Leifer of Overland Park and the late Henry Leifer. She is a graduate of New York University and the master’s program of the Julliard School.

The groom is the son of Rosa Aeschlimann of Bern, Switzerland, and the late Hans Aeschlimann. He graduated from the University of Bern and has been employed by the Swiss foreign ministry at the United Nations Organization.

After July 1, the couple will be residing in Berlin, where Johann is the cultural attaché to the Swiss ambassador and Barbara will continue her career as a mezzo-soprano and voice teacher.

Drs. Neal and Michelle Deutch announce the engagement of their son, Samuel Loren Deutch, to Charity Laine Barnum, daughter of Dale and Pamela Barnum, Ozawkie, Kan.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Thelma Wineinger and the late Dwayne Wineinger. She attended Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Oklahoma, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Master of Arts degree in psychology. She is currently employed with SRS of Kansas as a vocational rehabilitation counselor.

For the 26th consecutive year, The Bronfman Youth Fellowships in Israel has selected a group of 26 high school students to be Bronfman Fellows. Jessi Glueck, daughter of Dr. Robert and Miriam Glueck, of Leawood is one of the 26.

Jessi is a junior at Blue Valley North High School and a member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue. She is editor of her school newspaper and vice president of her school’s chapter of Future Business Leaders of America. Jessi is a passionate writer with several national awards.

The Bronfman Fellows participate in an intensive five-week program of study, travel and extensive programming in Israel designed to develop future community leaders committed to Jewish unity. The program was founded by Edgar M. Bronfman.

Rabbi Mishael Zion, co-director, director of education of the Fellowship explains, “We have the privilege of working with young participants who are already leading in their communities. We, in turn, instill in them a love for learning Jewish texts, a commitment to pluralism, and a sense of social and Jewish responsibility.”

Following a competitive application process, this year’s Bronfman Fellows are from 12 states across the U.S. and Canada. They represent diverse Jewish backgrounds, including Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, Reconstructionist, unaffiliated and non-denominational.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Henry and Marion Bloch and Paul Uhlmann Jr. and the late Barbara Uhlmann. She has her own art business, selling her original oil paintings and note cards. She is also employed with the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art as an assistant art teacher.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from College of Charleston and a master’s degree in business administration from the UMKC Bloch School of Management, graduating with honors in the Beta Sigma National Honors Society.
