Kaya Rose Stein, daughter of Adam Stein and Paula Mahayosnand of Jersey City, New Jersey, will become a bat mitzvah on Saturday, June 27.

The bat mitzvah will be held in The Sky Room at Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City.

Kaya is the granddaughter of Herb and Alice Stein of Overland Park, Kansas, and Inpol and the late Zita Mahayosnand of Meriden, Connecticut. She has a 16-year-old sister, Isabella.

Among Kaya’s hobbies and activities are acting, playing soccer, baking, cooking and creating art.

Kaya is named for her great-grandmother Rose Katzeff, who was a longtime member of Congregation Beth Shalom and its Sisterhood. Her grandparents Herb and Alice Stein are also longtime members of Congregation Beth Shalom. Kaya will fulfill a Stein family tradition of reading Parashat Bechukotai, the same parsha her grandfather, father, sister, uncle, aunt and first cousins all read.

For her mitzvah project, Kaya spent time as the library assistant at her school, organizing books so that they were easily accessible to all students.
