Sarina Farb, a home-schooled student from Lecompton, Kan., is among three winners in the Kansas BioGENEius Challenge, a statewide competition.

She finished in the top three among participants conducted before the KansasBio board of directors. Each of the three received $400, and was accompanied by a family member or mentor to the U.S. National BioGENEius Challenge, for June 25 and 26 in Washington, D.C.

Sarina was chosen to participate in the state competition for her molecular biology project, “The Effects of BPA — an Endocrine Disrupter Extracted from Thermal Receipt Paper — on the Proliferation of Cancer Cells.”
Sarina is the daughter of Joe and JoAnn Farb of LeCompton, and the granddaughter of Bernie and Judy Fremerman and the late Jack and Shirley Farb.
