Jewish Family Services hosts First Friday virtual event for ‘Connection’ benefit art exhibit This painting by Babs Lowenstein, who is honorary co-chair of JFS’ Connection Art Benefit along with her husband Bill, will be auctioned off as part of the First Friday virtual program on Sept. 4. First Friday has become a standard fun activity in Kansas City, so why let COVID-19 stop the fun? With safety in mind, Jewish Family Services is hosting a special virtual First Friday event at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, in conjunction with its “Connection” Benefit Art Exhibit at the Buttonwood Art Space. A link to the program will be posted on JFS’ website, jfskc.org. “Connection” is a juried show that includes 163 pieces created by 93 local and regional artists expressing connection through paintings, photographs, 3D pieces, fiber works, ceramics and more. All pieces are for sale with revenue split 50/50 between the artist and JFS. “First Friday Weekends are well known around the Kansas City area and we’re excited to be a part of the First Friday community, even if it is virtually,” said Melissa Kingston, JFS Special Events coordinator. “We have fun opportunities for viewers to participate including how to make a signature cocktail at home, viewing the online gallery and a watercolor demonstration by artist John Keeling. This is a fun way to involve everyone and a great way to participate from the comfort of your own home,” she said. Before the hour-long program concludes the winning bid will be announced on a colorful painting created by local artist Babs Lowenstein, who is honorary co-chair of the JFS exhibit with her husband Bill. Babs Lowenstein donated her painting for the benefit so 100 percent of the proceeds will go to JFS. To view the art and purchase individual pieces, access the Buttonwood Gallery website at www.buttonwoodartspace.com/show/connection.
